Inter are interested in signing Roma defender Chris Smalling but have categorically denied having begun transfer talks.

This according to Italian news outlet FCInter1908, who report that the Nerazzurri have been approached by the 33-year-old’s representatives, but would only be interested in starting talks when he confirms he intends to leave the Giallorossi on a free transfer.

Smalling’s representatives have already spoken with Inter regarding the fact that the Englishman could be available on a free transfer when his contract with Roma expires at the end of June 2023.

For their part, the Nerazzurri would be interested in signing the 33-year-old, considering that the uncertain futures of Milan Skriniar, Stefan de Vrij, and Francesco Acerbi mean that they could be restyling their defense for next season.

However, Inter do not want to enter into talks with Smalling and his representatives until they are certain that the Englishman plans to leave Roma on a free transfer.
