Italian journalist Marco Barzaghi expects that Chelsea defender Kalidou Koulibaly would be more of a transfer target for Inter than Roma’s Chris Smalling.

Reporting in a video on his YouTube Channel, Barzaghi explained that the Nerazzurri are very interested in taking advantage of Koulibaly’s unsettled situation at Chelsea, whilst Smalling is a player they are cooler towards.

Koulibaly has emerged as a possible transfer target for Inter for as early as next summer.

Despite having only made the switch to the Premier League from Napoli last summer on a significant transfer fee, the 31-year-old’s performances have not met expectations at Chelsea.

Accordingly, the AFCON winner with Senegal could be allowed to leave next summer.

Koulibaly still has a very positive reputation within Serie A based on his multiple seasons spent with Napoli, and the Nerazzurri would see him as a very strong possible reinforcement, whilst according to Barzaghi they would be less inclined towards Smalling.

“Koulibaly could be part of their talks with Chelsea,” he explained.

“He hasn’t convinced at Chelsea, but he would still have several more seasons left at a high level, and would be seen as a top-class reinforcement to lead the defense for years to come,” he continued.

“On the other hand, Inter are more lukewarm towards other names like Chris Smalling.”
