Benfica will join Inter in the race to sign Racing Club midfielder Carlos Alcaraz in the event that Manchester United go all-in to sign Enzo Fernandez.

This according to Portuguese news outlet TVI, via FCInterNews, who report that the 19-year-old would be one of the Lisbon-based team’s main targets to replace Fernandez should United go all in and break the bank to sign him.

Alcaraz is one of the Nerazzurri’s main targets in central midfield, although a number of other clubs have also been linked with him.

Portuguese giants Benfica could well emerge as serious rivals for Alcaraz’s signature.

Right now, transfer interest is building in Benfica midfielder Fernandez after the 22-year-old played a key role in Argentina’s World Cup triumph, having been named Young Player of the Tournament in Qatar.

United are only one of a number of clubs keen on signing the Argentine.

However, the Red Devils could be ready to splash the cash and trigger Fernandez’s release clause.

In this event, Benfica would be flush with cash and in search of a target to directly replace Fernandez, and Alcaraz would be one of the first names on their list.
