Francesco Acerbi looks to be the favourite to start for Inter in next week’s Serie A clash with Napoli as Stefan de Vrij has suffered an ankle bruise in training.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who report that whilst the injury to de Vrij is not serious, it likely means that Acerbi is set to start against the Partenopei.

After having returned to Inter training couple weeks ago, and playing in the team’s friendly match against Reggina last week, de Vrij sustained a bruise to his ankle from a tackle in training.

The problem is not overly serious, but he is being monitoring by the Nerazzurri’s medical staff.

The bruise means that it is certain that de Vrij will not be part of Inter’s squad for this evening’s friendly match against Sassuolo.

As far as next Wednesday’s Serie A match against Napoli, it is not certain whether de Vrij will be fit, but in any event Acerbi looks to be the much likelier starter.
