Inter would have no interest in signing Atalanta defender Merih Demiral as a replacement for Milan Skriniar if the Slovakian does not extend his contract.

This according to Italian news outlet FCInterNews, who report that in spite of the transfer rumours linking Demiral with the Nerazzurri, their actual target would be another Atalanta player in the form of Giorgio Scalvini.

A report emerged yesterday that, should Inter be unable to extend Skriniar’s contract, they could move for Demiral as his replacement.

However, as FCInterNews points out, the Turk cost Atalanta around €20 million from Juventus, and their valuation of him would now be around €30-40 million.

Accordingly, it is likelier that a team from the Premier League would meet La Dea’s asking price for Demiral, with Leicester City reportedly tracking him to replace his compatriot Caglar Soyuncu.

Scalvini would also command a high fee, but the 19-year-old would be seen by Inter as worth the investment in the event that Skriniar were to depart.

Meanwhile, FCInterNews reports, if Stefan de Vrij leaves at the end of his contract, an experienced and low-cost replacement such as Roma’s Chris Smalling would be sought.
