Inter captain Samir Handanovic is an admirer of UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin for how he has risen to a prominent position in football as a Slovenian.

Speaking to the Nerazzurri’s “Where are you from?” social media series, the 38-year-old named the current UEFA President as one of the Slovenians he most admires within the world of football.

As far as footballers go, Handanovic is one of the most prominent Slovenian internationals, alongside the likes of Atletico Madrid keeper Jan Oblak, and former Atalanta players Josip Ilicic and Jasmin Kurtic.

Meanwhile, the likes of Udinese’s Jaka Bijol and Empoli’s Petar Stojanovic are among the Slovenian players currently starring in Serie A.

However, arguably the most prominent Slovenian in football is not a player at all, but rather Ceferin.

Ceferin has been the President of UEFA since 2016 since he was elected to replace Michel Platini, having also been the head of Slovenia’s FA since 2011.

Asked who the Slovenian he most admires is, Handanovic replied “Aleksander Ceferin, UEFA President.”

“I think he’s someone who represents Slovenia very well to the rest of the world, it’s not easy for someone who comes from such a small country to reach that level.”
