Inter goalkeeper Andre Onana feels that he is just focused on winning with the Nerazzurri, and feels that the team have a chance of bringing home silverware this season.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia after the friendly win over Sassuolo, via FCInterNews, the Cameroonian stressed the view that Inter will be in the mix in all competitions over the rest of the current season.

After a World Cup campaign that ended in controversy after he was suspended temporarily by the Cameroonian FA before announcing his retirement from international football, Onana is back at Inter.

Questions could well arise around whether the 26-year-old would be potentially affected by what happened in Qatar with his national team.

However, for his part, the former Ajax keeper believes that there is little distraction, and that he and his teammates have what it takes to fight for trophies over the rest of the campaign if they are to stay focused.

Of the win over Sassuolo, Onana said that “Today we played a good match against a great team.”

“It was important for us to win,” he continued.

Looking ahead to the Serie A match against Napoli next week, Onana said that “I have a lot of faith in this team, and we can win against anyone, just look at the matches against Barcelona.”

Of being back at Inter after the experience with the national team, the 26-year-old said that “This is where I beloing, I think that’s obvious.”

“I’ll always be a fan of my Cameroon, but now I’m only focused on Inter and I want to win every trophy with the Nerazzurri,” he added. “With the team that we have, I think that’s possible.”

Asked about who his idol is, Onana replied that “Julio Cesar is certainly a player I’ve always admired, and he won everything here with Inter.”

“The way that this position is played has changed a lot over the years,” he continued of being a keeper, “now the goalkeeper is part of the buildup phase more and has to read different situations.”

“For all intents and purposes, you have to play as an extra outfield player.”

And asked about his goalkeeping teammate Samir Handanovic, Onana said that “I have a great relationship with him.”

“I don’t have to say much about Samir, the world knows who he is – few goalkeepers in the world can be compared to him, he deserves great credit for what he’s done in his career.”

“And now he’s helping me grow, it’s great to learn from someone like him,” Onana added of his teammate.
