Italian journalist Stefano Agresti believes that it is not just a rumour that Chris Smalling has been offered to Inter on a free transfer next summer.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Radio Radio Mattino, via FCInter1908, Agresti explained that, as far as he knows, it is indeed the case that the Englishman has been proposed as a possible transfer option to the Nerazzurri.

Smalling has been one of the names linked with Inter for next summer.

The 33-year-old currently sees his contract with Roma run out at the end of June 2023, and so should he not agree an extension with the Giallorossi he could be available on a free transfer.

This could be significant in the event that the Nerazzurri are looking to reinforce their backline with a player proven in Serie A, but maintain a low cost to the signing.

Agresti said of the transfer links between Inter and the Roma defender that “He has been offered to Inter, it’s not just a rumour.”
