Striker Lautaro Martinez is getting closer to a place in Inter’s starting eleven for next Wednesday’s Serie A clash with Napoli.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who report that the 25-year-old has made clear to coach Simone Inzaghi that he wants to start against the Partenopei.

Martinez is returning from his post-World Cup vacation today.

Given that the Argentine will have less than a week to prepare for next week’s match against Napoli, there have been doubts about whether he could get fully match-fit in time.

Accordingly, reports have suggested that Romelu Lukaku and Edin Dzeko would be the likeliest pair to start in attack for the Nerazzurri.

However, Martinez has been in contact with his coach Inzaghi, who he informed that he very much wants to be start.

The 25-year-old feels that given that he is hardly returning out of shape, he can be fully match-fit to start against Napoli.
