AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli has revealed that Inter President Steven Zhang personally messaged him to congratulate him after he and the Rossoneri won the Serie A title last season.

Speaking to the “I Re Di Calcio” program on Italian broadcaster DAZN, via FCInter1908, the Rossoneri coach praised Zhang for his courtesy and respectful attitude.

Zhang will have been disappointed in the failure to win the Serie A title at the climax of last season, just as everyone around Inter was.

The circumstances that saw the Nerazzurri miss out to their city rivals by just two points, only having the outcome of the title race confirmed on the final day of the season, was a bitter blow especially given that Inter looked to be the favourites at points during the season.

Nevertheless, Pioli stated, Zhang reached out with a gesture of sportsmanship after the final day of the campaign.

“After we won the Scudetto he congratulated me,” Pioli said, “he always has a very courteous and respectful attitude.”

“He messaged me: ‘Coach, congratulations because you deserved it.'”
