Portuguese giants Benfica would be ready to rival Inter for the signature of Racing Club midfielder Carlos Alcaraz in the event that they sell Enzo Fernandez.

This according to Portuguese newspaper O Jogo, via FCInter1908, who report that the 19-year-old Nerazzurri-linked player would be one of the Lisbon-based club’s main targets to replace Fernandez, who is on the radar of some of Europe’s elite.

Fernandez’s form for Benfica this season has marked him out as a target for a number of big European clubs.

The 22-year-old’s key role for Argentina at the World Cup in Qatar has only caused the interest in him to grow.

Accordingly, Benfica are starting to prepare for the poissibility that big offers could come in for Fernandez soon, and considering their succession plan.

Alcaraz is a player who has come onto the Portuguese league leaders’ radar in this regard.

The 19-year-old Argentine has also been a major target for Inter to reinforce their midfield once Roberto Gagliardini leaves.

Porto and Wolverhampton Wanderers have also shown an interest in signing Alcaraz.

According to O Jogo, however, Benfica could be the Nerazzurri’s main rivals to sign Alcaraz.
