Former Cagliari and SPAL coach Leonardo Semplici feels that the Serie A clash between Inter and Napoli at the start of next month will be a clear indicator of whether Napoli’s second half of the season will be anything like their first.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Radio Marte, via FCInterNews, Semplici stressed the importance of next Wednesday’s match for the rest of the campaign.

Inter will have a chance to put the first real dent in Napoli’s title charge when they host the Partenopei at the San Siro next week.

Over the first part of the season, Luciano Spalletti’s side have dropped just four points from an available 45, establishing a formidable advantage for themselves.

If the Partenopei can beat Inter, or even run away with a draw, this would only further add to the impression of invincibility around them.

On the other hand, if Inter can win, it could plant the seeds of doubt around the Calabrians’ ability to sustain their early season form.

“It will be an extremely important match,” Semplici explained, “because it will immediately tell us whether Spalletti’s team can show the same kind of form for the rest of the season or whether the break affected them.”

“There’s been a long and anomalous break, and it will remain to be seen how it affects the season.”
