Inter-linked Borussia Monchengladbach goalkeeper Yann Sommer feels that at the moment, he could still extend his contract with his current team.

Speaking to German news outlet Bild, via FCInterNews, the 34-year-old Swiss international explained that as of now, negotiations between he and Gladbach are still ongoing.

Sommer has been linked with Inter as a possible replacement for Samir Handanovic as backup to Andre Onana, should the Nerazzurri captain leave in the summer.

Given that the 34-year-old’s deal with Gladbach currently runs out at the end of June, he could be an attractive free transfer opportunity for the Nerazzurri.

Inter aren’t the only club keen on signing Sommer should he be available without a transfer fee.

Both Bayern Munich and Manchester United have also been linked with the Swiss, possibly for as early as the January transfer window.

However, there is no guarantee that Sommer will not find an agreement with his current club on a new contract.

Asked about his future, the former Basel keeper replied that “At the moment there are contract extension negotiations ongoing with Gladbach.”

“There had already been talks that began before the World Cup,” he added, “but right now there’s no news.”
