Former Inter and current Tottenham Hotspur coach Antonio Conte had been keen to sign both Romelu Lukaku and Edin Dzeko during his first season in charge of the Nerazzurri, and the duo finally look set to be brought together.

This is highlighted in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Libero, via FCInter1908, who note that the strike pair that has been gelling in the Nerazzurri’s training this month had been a longstanding dream for Conte.

Lukaku and Dzeko look to be the likeliest attacking duo to start for Inter in next week’s Serie A clash with Napoli.

The pair have had the chance to train together and start to form chemistry as a partnership, and their displays in friendly matches against Reggina and Sassuolo suggest that they do indeed have a good fit together.

Simone Inzaghi will be the first coach to take advantage of the dovetailing of the two strikers’ characteristics.

However, he is not the first to try and bring them together.

Rather, during Conte’s first season at Inter, Dzeko had been a major transfer target for the former Juventus, Italy, and Chelsea coach.

The Nerazzurri were unable to get a deal done to sign the Bosnian from Roma.

However, Conte never made any secret of that fact that he felt that Lukaku and Dzeko could link up well, and now Inter could finally benefit from this, albeit several years later.
