Inter are becoming increasingly concerned that they will miss out on midfielder Carlos Alcaraz, with the Argentine emerging as a target for Benfica to replace Enzo Fernandez.

According to L’Interista.it, Fernandez has appeared on the radar of Chelsea after starring in the 2022 World Cup for Argentina, and the Premier League club are ready to surpass his €120 million release clause to fight off any competition for him.

Indeed, Chelsea are ready to pay €130m in total to Benfica between upfront costs and bonuses, and Fernandez himself has already agreed to a five-year contract with the Blues in principal.

Should Fernandez leave the Estadio da Luz, Benfica will turn their attention to Racing Club midfielder Alcaraz and are ready to meet the Argentine club’s €15m valuation to bring him to Portugal.

Inter have been tracking Alcaraz for some time but are yet to reach an agreement for him, and there is a fear that he will be plucked from their hands and move to Lisbon instead.

There is even greater cause for concern at Inter after Benfica’s other principal target, Maximo Perrone of Velez Sarsfield, appears to be closing in on a move to Manchester City.

This leaves Alcaraz as their key focus, and Benfica are ready to move to replace Fernandez quickly.
