Inter are optimistic that an agreement can be reached with centre-back Milan Skriniar after next month’s Supercoppa Italiana, but there remains a gap between their offer and his demands.

As reported in today’s newspaper edition of Tuttosport, the Nerazzurri hope to conclude negotiations with the Slovakia international by mid-January, but talks are unlikely to make a breakthrough until after the Supercoppa match on 18 January.

The focus is on ensuring that Inter emerge victorious against AC Milan and lift the first trophy on offer this season, and then turn their attention to securing a new contract for Skriniar, who is set to become a free agent this summer.

Inter CEO Beppe Marotta had hoped to conclude talks before the break for the World Cup in November and there was little anticipation of negotiations being drawn out, but Inter are remaining steadfast in their offer of €6 million per year, plus bonuses.

However, after receiving a proposal of €9m per year from Paris Saint-Germain, Skriniar is set to push for better terms in order to stay with Inter, and wants the Nerazzurri to meet his €7m demands.

Inter remain optimistic that a new contract will be signed though, and Skriniar himself gave fans reason to believe his future remained at the club after posting “Forza Inter” on social media.
