Former Inter forward Sandro Mazzola is expecting the Nerazzurri to lose to Napoli in the crunch Serie A clash on Wednesday, but caveated that by admitting his predictions are usually wrong.

Simone Inzaghi’s side return to competitive action after the World Cup break with a home match against runaway league leaders Napoli, as they seek to inflict defeat on the Partenopei at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.

In an interview published in today’s newspaper edition of Il Mattino, Mazzola conceded that Napoli were the favourites after their imperious form in the first half of the season, as they sit 11 points clear of Inter after 15 matches.

“Napoli have put together a pretty good lead. In my opinion the Azzurri are favourites but with predictions I almost never get it right: usually the opposite happens,” Mazzola admitted.

Luciano Spalletti’s side are eight points clear of AC Milan at the top of the Serie A table as they seek a first Scudetto since 1990, and are currently unbeaten in the league this term.

Mazzola spent his entire career at Inter and made 568 appearances for the Nerazzurri between 1961 and 1977, winning four league titles and the European Cup twice.
