Reggina head coach Filippo Inzaghi feels that the only reason that Inter striker Romelu Lukaku hasn’t hit his best form has been injuries.

Speaking to Milan-based newspaper Corriere della Sera in an interview published in today’s print edition, via FCInterNews, the coach predicted that a fit Lukaku will be able to contribute at the level he had during his first two seasons with the Nerazzurri.

After returning to Inter to much fanfare during the summer, it would be an understatement to say that Lukaku has not lived up to expectations in his second stint with the Nerazzurri.

This has not been because the Belgian has been on the pitch but disappointed with his performances.

Rather, Lukaku has barely played, making just two starts and three substitute appearances for the Nerazzurri so far.

This naturally means that there are long-term question marks around the 29-year-old’s form and fitness for the rest of the campaign.

However, for his part, Filippo Inzaghi has faith in Lukaku.

“I would have brought him back as well,” he said, “but now with all the injuries he’s had, he obviously will have to work to recover his best physical condition.”

“The problem has been above all injuries, which have slowed him down.”

“But after the break, we’ll see the best Romelu again,” Inzaghi predicted.

“It will be the same with Lautaro,” he added, “he’ll be more fired up to win more trophies after winning the World Cup.”
