Legendary former Inter Presidnet Massimo Moratti feels that, if his old club are not able to come back in the Serie A title race, he would like to see Napoli go all the way.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Radio Punto Nuovo, via FCInterNews, the former Nerazzurri President gave his thoughts on the Partenopei ahead of their marquee Serie A match against Inter later this week.

Napoli have been the standout team in Serie A so far this season, dropping just for points from their opening fifteen matches to sit comfortably top of the table.

This does not mean that Luciano Spalletti’s team are guaranteed of anything over the rest of the campaign, however.

The Nerazzurri will be hoping to immediately deal Napoli their first real blow in the league as soon as the club season resumes on Wednesday.

For his part, Moratti feels that it would be good for Italian football to see a team like Napoli winning at all, however, despite his long connection with Inter.

“If Inter can’t win it, then my sympathies are absolutely with the Azzurri,” he said.

“An ultimate triumph for Napoli would be a triumph for more realistic operations in football, in terms of budgets and spending,” he added.

“Then there’s obviously all the passion around it, but at the end of the day it’s important for spending to more realistic levels, and in that respect I admire them.”
