Inter have been in contact with the representatives of Borussia Monchengladbach goalkeeper Yann Sommer and are interested in signing him, but Bayern Munich are closing in on him.

This according to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInter1908, who report that the Bavarians are close a getting a deal done for the 34-year-old in January despite the interest of the Nerazzurri.

Sommer has been a player on Inter’s list of possible targets to replace Samir Handanovic as backup to Onana next summer should the captain leave at the end of his current contract.

Given that the 34-year-old Swiss international’s current deal with Gladbach is set to expire at the end of June like Handanovic, he has been seen as an ideal like-for-like replacement for the Slovenian at low cost.

However, Bayern have also been looking at Sommer as a possible January signing for a fee, to fill in for injured captain Manuel Neuer.

According to Sky, the German champions are already closing in on a move for the former Basel player.
