Inter are keeping a close eye on defender Chris Smalling’s situation at Roma, as are teams in the Premier League.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who report that the Giallorossi are growing increasingly worried as the 33-year-old has yet to respond to their contract extension offer, with transfer interest growing.

Smalling’s situation has essentially been the same for some time now.

The former Manchester United defender would have the option to automatically extend his contract for a further season once he reaches 50% of minutes played this season.

Meanwhile, Roma have offered 33-year-old a new two-year deal from next season onwards, but at lower wages than that €3.5 million net per season that he currently earns.

Inter are among the teams considering a move for Smalling on a free transfer in June, as are clubs in the English top flight, and it will depend on his response to Roma’s offer.
