Monza and former Inter goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio feels that facing his old club the Nerazzurri in Serie A will be like neatly closing a chapter in his career.
Speaking to Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport in an interview published in today’s print edition, via FCInterNews, the 25-year-old gave his thoughts on facing his former team in the top flight for the first time.
Di Gregoio came through Inter’s youth ranks, but was never quite able to make an impact in the Nerazzurri’s first team.
It was at Monza where the 25-year-old really found the right environment to show what he can do.
Di Gregorio had been on loan with the Brianzoli for two seasons, helping them reach promotion to Serie A for the first time in their history.
The Lombard team made Di Gregorio’s loan permanent over the summer.
Monza have continued to show faith in the 25-year-old as their first-choice keeper in Serie A, and he will have the chance to show how far he’s come in a match against his old team during the weekend.
“It will be like coming full circle for me,” Di Gregorio reflected, “growing up from a boy to a man.”
“I joined the Inter youth academy when I was almost seven years old,” he continued.
“I’m originally from Corsico, on the outskirts of Milan, and I immediately started playing in goal.”
Di Gregorio looked back that “I threw myself at every ball, I always wanted to be on goal even when I was just playing with my cousin.”
