Inter have offered defender Stefan de Vrij a new two-year contract containing the option of a further season.

This according to Italian news outlet Corriere della Sera, via FCInterNews, who report that the Nerazzurri’s offer is for a two-year contract extension which could automatically become a three-year deal.

Inter are keen to extend de Vrij’s contract in order to avoid losing the Dutchman on a free transfer when his current deal runs out at the end of June.

The 30-year-old has been given the club’s offer to consider, with the Nerazzurri hoping that developments come during the January transfer window.

It had already been reported that Inter have put a new two-year contract extension on the table, and according to the Corriere della Sera, the deal offered would also contain the option of an extra season.

It remains to be seen whether de Vrij decides to accept Inter’s offer, with a number of teams outside of Serie A reported to be interested in signing him on a free transfer.
