Italian journalist Matteo Barzaghi feels that Inter striker Romelu Lukaku is getting closer and closer to his best form, physically and technically.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, the journalist explained that from what he has seen in training, the Belgian looks to be close to his best self.

Lukaku was barely able to play over the first portion of the season due to injury, whilst the playing time that he did manage did not see the 29-year-old looking quite at his best physically.

However, the striker has taken the long winter break as an opportunity to work continuously in training to slowly build up his best condition physically.

Moreover, the friendlies played during the period have afforded the Belgian the opportunity to test himself and gain match-sharpness.

Whether this means that Lukaku will return to the pitch from January onwards looking like the player who Nerazzurri fans know he is capable of being is yet to be seen, but from what Barzaghi has seen, the signs are positive.

“Lukaku looks very determined,” the journalist said, “he wants to play, he can’t wait.”

“In terms of form, he’s much better,” he added, “the other day I was watching him carefully from the sidelines in Reggio-Emilia, and I’m starting to see Romelu back to his physical best, he has almost a diamond shape from the waist up.”

“I’m starting to see him look good, and then the pitch will be the judge.”
