Inter fans could well be worrying that the contract extension negotiations between the Nerazzurri and Milan Skriniar are headed in the same direction as those with Ivan Perisic last season.

In the view of today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, however, via FCInter1908, there are clear differences in how the respective sets of talks have shaped up.

In the case of Perisic, Inter were initially reluctant to offer the Croat a big new contract given his age.

As the now-Tottenham wingback continued to show top form throughout the campaign, where he was arguably the team’s outstanding player, the Nerazzurri raised their offer to try and convince him to extend his stay.

However, by that time it was already too late as Perisic had made up his mind to leave for a new challenge in the Premier League.

With Skriniar, by contrast, there has been no hesitancy or lack of faith shown.

With their very first offer, Inter have gone virtually as high as they can go within their wage structure.

It remains to be seen whether Skriniar will accept the Nerazzurri’s offer.

If the Slovakian decides to leave, however, it will not be for the same reasons as Perisic, who in the end felt that the club waited too long to make a serious offer that he’d consider accepting.

With Skriniar, Inter have made completely clear from October onwards that they will do absolutely everything they can to keep hold of him.
