Inter striker Romelu Lukaku will be targeting a big January as he makes his long-awaited return to fitness, and he could be looking at the precedent with a smile.
This is highlighted in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who note that the first month of the year has always been a good one for the Belgian, particularly in an Inter shirt.
Lukaku scored four goals in January during his first season at Inter, and five during his second.
The Belgian clearly has a tendency to take the winter break as an opportunity to recharge and come back to the pitch as the best version of himself.
This has always been on show during the very first match back, when Lukaku has looked at his hungriest for goals.
Napoli themselves were victims of this in the first match back in January 0f 2020, when the Belgian scored a match-winning brace in a 3-1 win for the Nerazzurri.
Clearly, the Partenopei will be a tougher nut to crack this time around.
However, Lukaku has had a longer break to train and to build up his anticipation and desire, so if there is going to be a January effect for him, now would be the time.
