Legendary former Inter goalkeeper Walter Zenga feels that if the Nerazzrrui were to come back in the Serie A title race from where they sit now, it would be a massive achievement.
Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews, the Nerazzurri icon gave his thoughts on what an improbable Scudetto charge would mean for his old side.
Eleven points are a big gap to make up in any circumstances, and the fact that Inter will have to try and do it against a team who have looked virtually unstoppable so far in the form of Napoli only make things more difficult.
Meanwhile, Juventus and AC Milan both sit ahead of the Nerazzurri in the table as things stand.
Clearly, things will not be easy for Simone Inzaghi’s side.
On the other hand, the 52 days away during the World Cup lend a certain feeling that things have “reset” whilst Inter have been gifted the opportunity to make a statement right away as the team they face on their return is none other than league leaders the Partenopei.
“We don’t know exactly what the teams will look like or their quality after such a long break,” Zenga noted.
“It’s the first time this has happened,” he continued, “we can’t know what the consequences will be.”
“I like to see the coaches optimistic, but Inter are fifth in the table with an eleven point gap to make up.”
Zenga argued that “It would be a real feat if they were to win the Scudetto from here, also because they still have other teams in the top four who they have to leapfrog.”
