Sampdoria head coach Dejan Stankovic has denied rumours that he has asked his club to try and sign Inter-owned goalkeeper Filip Stankovic on loan.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia following his side’s 2-1 win over Sassuolo, as reported by FCInterNews, the former Nerazzurri midfielder and current Blucerchiati coach denied reports that he is keen to sign Inter goalkeeper Filip, his son.

A report emerged today that Sampdoria had inquired about the possibility of signing young goalkeeper Stankkovic on loan for the rest of the season.

The Ligurians are looking for reinforcements for the rest of the season as they look to avoid relegation from Serie A.

Given that they appointed former Inter and Lazio midfielder Dejan before the winter break, the link to Filip seemed obvious, although all reports suggest that the Nerazzurri have no intention of cutting the 20-year-old’s loan spell at Volendam short.

As far as his father Dejan is concerned, however, he has no intention of trying to sign his son.

Asked about the purported interest, the coach replied “No, there’s no truth to that.”

“He’s still growing in the game,” Stankovic said of his son, “he made the move to Volendam at the age of nineteen, and then he helped them to promotion.”

“I’m not bringing Filip here to Genoa,” he added, “we’ll see if our paths cross at some point in the future.”
