Inter striker Edin Dzeko proved yet again that he’s not just a backup option with his performance and goal in the team’s 1-0 Serie A win over Napoli yesterday evening.

This is the view in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who argue that the Bosnian has made the clear case that he’s as much a player for the Nerazzurri’s starting eleven as Romelu Lukaku or Lautaro Martinez.

When Dzeko stayed at Inter this season despite Lukaku’s return from Chelsea, the expectation was that the 36-year-old would be the backup in attack to the Belgian and Martinez.

However, injuries to Lukaku meant that the former Roma and Manchester City striker played far more than anticipated over the first part of the campaign.

Dzeko has continued to be a vital player for the Nerazzurri so far this campaign, and he showed it yet again against the Partenopei.

The Bosnian started alongside Lukaku for the first time ever in a competitive match, with Martinez not yet ready to start after a late return from the World Cup.

Dzeko led the line effectively, and capped off his performance with an excellent header to make himself the Nerazzurri’s match-winning hero, and not for the first time.

For the Gazzetta, this was only more evidence that Dzeko deserves to be considered as virtually a first-choice attacker for Inter alongside Lukaku and Martinez.
