Inter goalkeeper Andre Onana feels that his team did exceptionally well to keep out the strongest attack in Serie A in their 1-0 win over Napoli.

Speaking to InterTV after the match, via FCInterNews, the Cameroonian gave his immediate reaction to the result, one of the team’s most important and most impressive of the season so far.

The Nerazzurri will not have been under any illusions that their clash with league leaders Napoli was going to be anything other than a massive challenge.

However, the team put in a resolute defensive display to keep the likes of Victor Osimhen and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia as well as the rest of the Partenopei’s attacking players quiet for ninety minutes.

There is still a lot of work to do if the Nerazzurri hope to catch up in the Serie A title race, but Onana and his teammates certainly showed that they are not scared of matching up to teams with great attacking quality.

Onana had one stop to make but it was an important one, coming late in the match, and the 26-year-old said that “The save was important, but the most important thing is that I kept a clean sheet.”

“I’m proud of this team,” he continued, “this was a very important win.”

“We have to keep going like this.”

The Cameroonian said that “I’m happy with how we got a reaction after our goal, but I’m especially pleased with how everyone cleared when the defenders made blocks, they were exceptional at getting in the way of everything.”

Onana noted that “We knew how important this match was, so mentally I was very focused.”

“We were playing against a top opponent, and we’re well aware that I could have to make a save in the first minute in the last.”

“I knew that Napoli would give us difficulty today, and I was ready for it.”

“We did an incredible job today,” Onana said.

“We defended well, following the coach’s instructions perfectly, we didn’t concede a goal to the best attack in Italy, I think this was a real feat.”

“I’m proud of my defense and my teammates,” the keeper closed.
