Borussia Monchengladbach goalkeeper and reported Inter target Yann Sommer is close to joining Bayern Munich on a two-and-a-half year deal.

This according to Swiss news outlet RSI Sport, via FCInterNews, who report that the 34-year-old is set to sign a contract with the Bavarians until the end of June 2025.

Sommer has been on Inter’s radar as a possible replacement for Samir Handanovic as backup to Andre Onana should the captain leave at the end of his current contract in the summer.

The Swiss international has been looked at as a free transfer opportunity given his contract situation with Gladbach.

However, Bayern do not even want to wait until Sommer is available on a free transfer.

The German champions are ready to outlay a fee to sign the 34-year-old former Basel keeper as a fill-in for injured captain Manuel Neuer over the rest of the season.

According to RSI, Bayern and Sommer are close to putting pen to paper on a deal until the end of June 2025.
