Inter striker Edin Dzeko is happy with the partnership that he is starting to form in attack alongside Romelu Lukaku.

Speaking to InterTV after the Nerazzurri’s 1-0 win over Napoli, via FCInterNews, the Bosnian spoke highly of his attacking teammate, and also gave his reaction to a match in which three points did not come easy for them.

Dzeko started alongside Lukaku for the first time not just this season, but ever, for any team, in a competitive match.

The duo had started to show flashes of their chemistry together in the Nerazzurri’s friendly matches during the winter break, and this impression was confirmed by their display against the Partenopei.

Whilst the Belgian in particular didn’t quite look to be at his best with signs of rust in some of his first touches, it was clear that he and Dzeko had a good sense of each other’s movements and how to get the best out of one another.

“We ran a lot,” Dzeko noted of the pair, “even Romelu dropped deep often to help the team.”

“It was the only way for us to win this match, we suffered a lot.”

“Then when I came off I had a bit of cramp, that’s natural in the first match back plus the pitch was a bit heavy to play on.”

“I have a good partnership with Romelu, and also with the other strikers, we need everyone to contribute if we’re going to win,” Dzeko added.

The Bosnian noted that “We’ve won a very important match and we take home three very important points that give us confidence for the future.”

“We’ve been waiting for this match for a long time,” he said.

“After Atalanta we talked a lot amongst ourselves about it.”

“And we approached it in the best way possible, and we brought home the three points which I think is the most important thing.”

Of his movement for the match’s only goal, Dzeko said that “That movement at the near post certainly made the difference, but Dimarco’s cross.. he is truly a marksman with his deliveries.”

“And then the whole team deserves credit, there’s Mkhitaryan with his incredible cross-field ball.”

“We were right in it as a team, right from the beginning.”

Dzeko noted that “Napoli are a team who are very good in possession, and we allowed them to have a lot of the ball, but we looked for our opportunities and we took them.”
