Roma defender Chris Smalling is still in contact with his former teammates Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Edin Dzeko at Inter.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who report that the 33-year-old still speaks to his friends and former teammates amid transfer interest from the Nerazzurri.

Smalling has emerged as a transfer target for Inter, particularly in the event that Stefan de Vrij does jot extend his contract.

The Englishman would only be available to join the Nerazzurri in the event that he decides not to extend his deal with the Giallorossi, but if he doesn’t then he would be available on a free transfer.

Smalling is seriously considering his future.

One possible decision in the former Manchester United defender’s decision could be the presence of two former teammates and friends at the Nerazzurri.

The Englishman has known Mkhitaryan since their time together at United, where they formed a relationship.

Meanwhile, Smalling and Dzeko have known each other since the defender joined Roma, but the pair also get along well.

Smalling still speaks with both current Nerazzurri players, and this could well prove a factor in a possible free transfer in the summer.
