Inter coach Simone Inzaghi got no small measure of revenge on his critics with his team’s performance and victory against Napoli on Wednesday evening.
This is the view in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who argue that the coach must now keep that momentum going and prove himself as things get even tougher.
Just a few months ago, Inzaghi’s job looked to be on the line, at least in the view of some of his critics in the media.
Losses against Lazio, AC Milan, Udinese, and Roma cast doubt on whether the 46-year-old former Lazio coach was the right man for a job of the Nerazzurri’s stature.
Whilst the coach steadied the ship, November’s disappointing loss away to Juventus meant that it remained essentially up in the air whether Inzaghi had really rectified the team’s issues playing against direct rivals.
Against Napoli, then, the coach produced a response on the pitch.
There was little doubt that Inter had found the right formula for playing against top sides, against the best team in Serie A up to that point no less.
Now, the task of the coach will be to double down, with a packed fixture list on the way in Serie A, not to mention a Supercoppa Italiana clash with city rivals AC Milan in less than two weeks.
