Napoli will not receive any disciplinary action in response to allegations that racist chants were directed towards Inter striker Romelu Lukaku from Napoli fans during Wednesday’s Serie A match.
This according to Italian news outlet Gazzetta.it, via FCInterNews, who report that the Sporting Judge in Italy will not pursue the matter further after investigations, and that the alleged chants may have been a mishearing.
Yesterday, reports emerged that the sporting authorities in Italy were investigating allegations that racist chants had been directed at Lukaku from Napoli fans in the away stands at the San Siro during Wednesday evening’s match.
The reports suggested that possible disciplinary action could be taken.
Namely, the Partenopei could potentially have faced having sections of their home stadium the Stadio Armando Maradona temporarily closed down for their next home match.
However, the authorities have investigated the matter, and according to the Gazzetta, have decided against pursuing it any further or seeking disciplinary action.
According to the Gazzetta, one possibility behind the incident is that the alleged racist chants were in fact a mishearing of chants of support aimed at Partenopei defender Kim Min-Jae, who had been marking Lukaku.
