Inter midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu was taken off in the 2-2 draw against Monza this evening after suffering a muscle injury, according to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio.

The Turkey international started the match at the U-Power Stadium but only lasted 55 minutes before being withdrawn, after going to ground and requiring Nicolo Barella to put the ball out of play.

As reported by Di Marzio via Pazzidifanta.com, Calhanoglu’s injury was of a muscular nature and he is expected to miss upcoming games against Parma in the Coppa Italia, and a Serie A match against Hellas Verona next weekend.

There is also a fear that the midfielder will be unavailable for the Supercoppa Italiana clash against former club AC Milan on 18 January, and adds to the injury worries for coach Simone Inzaghi.

The tactician was already without Marcelo Brozovic due to injury, and had to call upon Kristjan Asllani from the bench to replace Calhanoglu, for only his 13th appearance for the club.

Asllani had only featured in seven league games for Inter before tonight, and was limited to just 187 minutes of action before replacing Calhanoglu.
