Inter have been handed a boost after it emerged that midfielders Nicolo Barella and Hakan Calhanoglu have avoided any significant injury.
As reported in today’s newspaper edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport, Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi was forced to withdraw the pair in the second half of yesterday’s 2-2 draw against Monza in Serie A after they felt discomfort.
With crucial fixtures coming up this month, including the Supercoppa Italiana against AC Milan, Inzaghi could ill afford to lose more players, but the news is better than first feared.
Italy international Barella has not suffered any damage and should be available as soon as Tuesday, when Inter face Parma in the Coppa Italia, with medical checks carried out after the draw against Monza ruling out injury.
The news is less positive for Calhanoglu, with the former Milan midfielder suffering muscular fatigue and it is highly unlikely that he will be available for the match against Parma.
Calhanoglu has not suffered a serious injury and it is believed that his involvement in every league game so far this season has caught up with him.
