Inter President Steven Zhang and the club’s managerial hierarchy are confident that they have done everything they can to convince defender Milan Skriniar to remain at the club.

As reported in today’s newspaper edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Slovakia international is on course to become a free agent in the summer unless he pens an extension, and fans pleaded with him to remain when unfurling a banner during yesterday’s 2-2 draw against Monza in Serie A.

The banner at the U-Power Stadium read “Skriniar you are our captain. You are the master of Milan. Stay with us,” in an effort to persuade the captain to agree to a new deal and commit his future to Inter.

Zhang and CEO Beppe Marotta have presented Skriniar with a new contract worth €6 million per year plus bonuses, and have set the defender a deadline immediately after the Supercoppa Italiana against AC Milan on 18 January to respond.

The club feel that they have done everything they can to meet Skriniar’s demands and try to keep him, and the decision is now in his hands as to whether he commits to Inter or decides to move on as a free agent in June.

Indeed, the contract offer is now deemed non-negotiable and Skriniar must choose whether to take it or leave it, as Inter seek an answer so as to be able to begin making plans for next season.
