Inter could be without midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu for the Supercoppa Italiana against AC Milan after he went off with injury in yesterday’s 2-2 draw with Monza.

As reported in today’s newspaper edition of Tuttosport, the Turkey international suffered a minor muscular strain in his lower back at the U-Power Stadium, and had to be withdrawn 11 minutes into the second half of the Serie A match.

Whilst the injury is not deemed serious, Inter are set to face Milan in Riyadh on 18 January and Calhanoglu faces a race against time to recover for the clash against his former club.

Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi is already without Marcelo Brozovic after the Croatian complained of muscle soreness in his left leg, and he is not expected to be available for the match in Saudi Arabia.

Calhanoglu will undergo further tests to determine the extent of the injury, and there is a hope that he came off the pitch before any significant damage was done.

Inter have been boosted by the news that fellow midfielder Nicolo Barella has not suffered an injury though, after also being substituted against Monza.
