Romelu Lukaku’s poor form for Inter is increasingly becoming a cause for concern for the club, after an awful display in yesterday’s 2-2 draw against Monza.

As reported in today’s newspaper edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Chelsea loanee looks well off the pace and his physical condition is hindering him in his efforts to make an impact in matches.

Lukaku has struggled with injuries this season but is described by the newspaper as looking like a distant cousin of the striker who fired Inter to the Serie A title in 2021, before his €115 million move to Chelsea.

The former Manchester United striker had developed a devastating partnership with Lautaro Martinez under Antonio Conte, but this was nowhere to be seen at the U-Power Stadium as the Argentine carried Inter’s attack.

It is reported that coach Simone Inzaghi is ready to give up on that tandem, and looked to Martinez alongside Edin Dzeko, himself ineffective yesterday.

Lukaku’s physical limitations are venturing into psychological issues and the Belgium international does not look fit enough to compete in Serie A currently, with the match against Monza an awkward watch as he miscontrolled passes and clumsily lost possession.

The 29-year-old endured a miserable World Cup in Qatar, culminating in a host of missed chances against Croatia as Belgium were eliminated in the Group Stage, and his troubles appear to have continued at Inter.
