Serie A referee Juan Luca Sacchi is expected to be suspended after a costly blunder in Inter’s 2-2 draw against Monza yesterday evening.

As reported in today’s newspaper edition of Corriere dello Sport, the official had a dreadful time at the U-Power Stadium and was poor throughout the game, but will now face a suspension after failing to award Inter a second half goal.

The Nerazzurri looked to have gone 3-1 up when Francesco Acerbi netted, but Sacchi blew for a foul on Pablo Mari by Roberto Gagliardini before the ball crossed the line.

Despite replays showing that Mari had been clipped by teammate Armando Izzo, VAR was unable to intervene as play had been stopped before the ball went in, and so the goal did not stand.

Sacchi was also criticised for failing to award Inter a freekick for a poor tackle by Monza fullback Carlos Augusto, but did make the right call in refusing to award a penalty to Patrick Ciurria after a coming together with Acerbi in the first half.
