Inter striker Lautaro Martinez feels that the Nerazzurri lacked the ruthlessness and hunger to kill off the match in Saturday’s 2-2 Serie A draw with Monza.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Rai Sport, via FCInterNews, the 25-year-old noted the mental aspect that must be improved upon after the Nerazzurri let two points slip away late on in their trip to face the Brianzoli over the weekend.

Inter were not at their best throughout Saturday’s match, but looked to be headed for a victory anyways as the clock moved into stoppage time.

However, the slender 2-1 advantage that the Nerazzurri were protecting always looked to be a precarious one, and so it proved as a late own goal from Denzel Dumfries meant that they were forced to share the points with the newly-promoted side.

Inter failed to take the game to Monza throughout the second half and find the third goal that would make the result safer for them, and in Martinez this was evidence that there are improvements that need to be made.

Asked what he thought the team were lacking, the striker replied “A bit of desire to win, sometimes we lose sight of that and it isn’t good because we have to kill off matches earlier.”

“If we’re ahead by a goal, we have to control the match better, that’s something that we sometimes lack and we have to work on.”
