Backup midfielders Kristjan Asllani and Roberto Gagliardini will be looking to show that they can make a valuable contribution to Inter in their anticipated starts against Parma on Wednesday.

This is noted in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who suggest that the Coppa Italia clash later this week can be an opportunity for the pair to prove themselves.

Asllani and Gagliardini both came on as substitutes for Inter’s Serie A clash with Monza on Saturday, with their introductions coinciding with the Nerazzurri losing a fair bit of midfield control before the Brianzoli’s late equalizer.

This will have been a match to forget for the pair who have so far found their playing time limited this season.

Asllani is still considered one for the future, and whilst the faith from the club remains that the young Albanian will grow into an important player, the fewer than six hours he has played in total is a clear indicator that this faith does not extend to the present.

Meanwhile, Gagliardini’s Inter adventure will almost certainly be over at the end of the current season when his contract with the Nerazzurri expires.

Asllani’s and Gagliardini’s situations are different, but both will be looking to prove themselves and make their contribution to the Inter cause, particularly with the fact that the densely-packed fixture list will test the Nerazzurri’s entire squad over the rest of the campaign.

In this sense, Wednesday’s Coppa Italia round of sixteen tie against Parma will be a perfect opportunity for both of the pair to start building a foothold, as both are expected to start in a heavily-rotated eleven for that match.
