La Liga side Villarreal have asked the agent of Inter defender Stefan de Vrij for information about a possible transfer as distance remains between the player and his club in contract extension talks.

This according to Italian broadcaster DAZN, via FCInterNews, who report that the Yellow Submarine as well as a number of teams in the Premier League have started to show a real interest in signing the 30-year-old former Lazio and Feyenoord defender on a free transfer.

Inter have made their offer to de Vrij for a new two-year contract, as the Nerazzurri are not keen to lose the Dutchman on a free transfer when his current deal runs out at the end of June.

However, the club’s offer is for a two-year deal, whilst the player has been clear that he expects a three-year contract.

This is one of the main aspects to be bridged between de Vrij and Inter, and it remains to be seen if they can reach an agreement in negotiations.

In the meantime, Villarreal have emerged as possible suitors for the 30-year-old should he not extend his deal with the Nerazzurri.
