Inter midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu is a major injury doubt for next week’s Supercoppa Italiana clash with AC Milan.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who report that there could be an underlying thigh flexor problem which keeps the 28-year-old out of next Wednesday’s match, whilst Nicolo Barella is likely to be fit and available.

Both Calhanoglu and Barella will undergo medical tests today which should reveal whether or not they will be available to face the Rossoneri next week.

The two midfielders each had to come off as substitutes during the second half of the Nerazzurri’s Serie A match against Monza over the weekend.

In the case of Barella, the feeling is that the issue was nothing more than a slight muscle knock, whilst with Calhanoglu there is real worry that behind the discomfort that the Turk felt is an underlying injury to his thigh flexor.

In both cases, the true extent of the injuries should be revealed in medical tests today.
