Italian journalist Paolo Condo believes that Inter are only being kept in the Serie A title race by the fact that they have what looks to be a kind fixture list until March.

Writing in his column in yesterday’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper La Repubblica, via FCInterNews, Condo gave his appraisal of the Nerazzurri’s title hopes, suggesting that they can cling to the hopes of picking up points against more beatable teams on paper.

Facing theoretically weaker teams is no guarantee of picking up victories, as Inter found out the hard way against Monza on Saturday.

However, there is little doubt that the schedule that sits in front of Inter is one where they will expect to win the majority of their matches, and this could allow them to start catching up if their rivals start dropping points.

This is Condo’s view, as the journalist does not rule the Nerazzurri out of Scudetto contention at least until they get through this kind run of fixtures on paper.

“Only the kind fixture list – of the top teams they only face Milan, whilst they get all three of the bottom teams in the next few weeks – keeps Inter in the title race despite a poor performance against Monza,” he writes.

Of the match against Monza, Condo writes that “Apart from the obvious referee error that went against them, and the fact that Lukaku is out of form, Inzaghi’s real problem is a defense that is getting close to conceding the same number of goals they did all season last time around – 24 so far compared to 32.”
