Inter would be more inclined to try and sign Torino defender Perr Schuurs to replace Stefan de Vrij than Roma’s Chris Smalling.

This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews, who report that the Dutchman’s age would make him a preferable target to Smalling for the Nerazzurri in the event that Stefan de Vrij leaves on a free transfer.

Inter’s summer transfer window could be focused on reshaping their defense.

Continued uncertainty around Milan Skriniar’s future means that at least one major signing could be required to reinforce the backline, whilst the club could need to make another signing if Danilo D’Ambrosio leaves.

De Vrij is yet another defender whose contract runs out at the end of the season, and the Nerazzurri will look to sign a defender with a similar profile if the 30-year-old leaves at the end of his current deal.

Smalling is on Inter’s radar, as he could be a reliable low-cost option available at the end of his current contract with Roma.

However, Torino’s Schuurs is more than a decade younger than the former Manchester United, an important factor in Inter’s consideration.

The Granata have already received some interest from the Premier League, whilst Inter have made some initial inquiries.

Torino could decide to cash in on Schuurs in the summer already, and if so Inter would see him as the ideal replacement for his countryman de Vrij.
