Inter’s midfield trio in yesterday evening’s 2-1 Coppa Italia round of sixteen win over Parma have come in for some criticism from Italian media.

The three of Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Roberto Gagliardini, and Kristjan Asllani all received scores of just 5/10 for their displays in the player ratings for the match published in today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews.

Inter coach Simone Inzaghi virtually had his hand forced by injuries into selecting a makeshift trio in the centre for yesterday’s match.

If the coach had hoped that there would nevertheless be the right balance to the midfield of Mkhitaryan, Gagliardini, and Asllani to make up for the lack of the usual starters, he will have quickly seen that this was in vain.

The trio looked out of joint, struggling to link with each other let alone with the forward, whilst some technical errors and sloppiness meant that any pressure they could muster on the Parma backline quickly dissipated.
