Italian journalist Alberto Cerruti believes that there is a real chance that Inter coach Simone Inzaghi’s position could become a precarious one in the event that the team fail to win any trophies this season.

Writing in his column for Italian news outlet Calciomercato.com, Cerruti suggested that a shock return fore Antonio Conte, or a move for Bright and Hove Albion coach Roberto De Zerbi could be among the candidates to replace the 46-year-old if he is sacked.

Right now, Inzaghi’s job does not appear to be under too much threat.

The former Lazio coach enjoyed a positive first season at the club, winning both the Supercoppa Italiana and Coppa Italia as well as reaching the knockout rounds of the Champions League.

This time around, the coach has once again reached the Champions League round of sixteen, but it will remain to be seen whether he can repeat the feats in the cup competitions from last season.

When this is coupled with the fact that Inzaghi has failed so far to look like he can rectify the one thing that was really missing last season, the Scudetto, Cerruti believes that the Nerazzurri could give serious consideration to the coach’s future.

“If the team fail to win the Supercoppa, or to repeat last season’s win in the Coppa Italia, then Inzaghi would no longer be certain of even seeing out the final remaining season of his current contract,” Cerruti writes.

“And at that point the idea of a change on the bench could no longer be ruled out,” he continues.

Cerruti predicts that “The idea of Conte coming back as a big name return, or of De Zerbi arriving after impressing in the Premier League, could not be dismissed.”
