Inter midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan is almost certainly set to make his ninth consecutive start across all competitions for the Nerazzurri in tomorrow evening’s Serie A clash with Hellas Verona.

This is highlighted in today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who note that the Armenian has become a real fixture of the Nerazzurri’s starting eleven.

When Mkhitaryan joined from Roma in the summer, it was anticipated that he would be a reliable depth option in midfield.

There was no doubt that the Armenian has the quality to start even important matches for the Nerazzurri, but the likes of Marcelo Brozovic, Nicolo Barella, and Hakan Calhanoglu were always going to prove tough to displace in the pecking order.

However, a variety of injuries to other players, particularly the thigh injury that Brozovic was out with during October, meant that Mkhitaryan has been called into action on a regular basis, where he has proven to be “Mr. Reliable” for Simone Inzaghi.

The 33-year-old started against Parma on Tuesday, his third consecutive start since returning from the winter break, with the injury absences of Barella, Calhanoglu, and Brozovic making it all but certain that he would be on the pitch from the first minute.

Tomorrow, the former Giallorossi midfielder is once again set to be called into action as the ambiguous fitness of other first-choice midfielders at the club will once again mean that he is tasked with being one of the senior heads in the midfield battle for the Nerazzurri.
